Short answer: yes. Plenty of people keep a work account and a personal one. Using both at once is the hard part, because one copy of Claude Desktop holds one login: the browser gives you the website without the app's Code tab and connectors, and Claude Code needs a folder per account. What the help pages say
New Claude accounts need a phone number that can receive texts. According to Anthropic's phone verification article, a number that has already verified three Claude accounts can't verify another, so you can't make endless accounts with one number.
A company Team or Enterprise seat and your own Pro plan are often different accounts, and keeping them apart is usually what your employer wants anyway.
One rule matters more than the mechanics: Anthropic's terms apply to every account, and using extra accounts to get around usage limits can get them suspended. Use the accounts you're allowed to have.
What stays separate per account?
- Chats and projects. Each account has its own conversations, projects and files.
- Plan and usage. A work Team seat and a personal Pro plan each have their own plan and limits.
- Settings and connectors. Connectors and MCP servers you set up belong to the account and the app you set them up in.
How do you run both at once?
- In the browser: open claude.ai in a second browser profile and sign in with the other account. Free and quick; you get the website, not the desktop app.
- In Claude Code:
give the second account its own folder, as Anthropic's docs describe. Setup and aliases.CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR=~/.claude-work claude - In Claude Desktop: each account needs its own copy of the app with its own data folder. On a Mac you can start one from Terminal for free (how, and its catches), or let Claude Sessions Pro set them up as separate apps.
